Frequently Asked Questions
Answers to common questions about SMASH Cars
How do I sell my car through SMASH Cars?
Send your vehicle details through the form on our home page. SMASH Cars reviews your enquiry and, where a buyer or auto recycler is available for your vehicle, comes back with an offer. If you accept it, the pickup is arranged with you; free pickup for qualifying vehicles is confirmed when we review your enquiry.
How do I get paid?
Payment is by Interac e-Transfer, direct deposit or cheque. The method and the timing are part of the offer you agree to, and payment follows once the vehicle has been collected and verified by the recycler. An enquiry on its own is not a confirmed offer.
Does my car need to be running?
No. Partner recyclers handle vehicles in all conditions — running, not running, damaged, high mileage, flood, fire or accident. Tell us the vehicle's current state in the enquiry and it is taken into account when the enquiry is reviewed.
Is there any cost or fee to sell my car?
SMASH does not charge you a listing, admin or enquiry fee. Free pickup is available for qualifying vehicles and is confirmed when we review your enquiry; where a vehicle or a location does not qualify, any cost is set out before you agree to anything. The offer is confirmed against the vehicle when it is collected and verified.
What types of vehicles do you accept?
Cars, trucks, SUVs, vans and most passenger vehicles are considered regardless of age, mileage or condition, and enquiries are reviewed from across Canada. Whether a buyer and a collection route are available for your vehicle where it is parked is what the review tells you; coverage is not universal.
How long does the process take?
We aim to come back within one business day of reviewing your enquiry. If there is an offer for your vehicle and you accept it, a pickup date is arranged with you; how soon depends on your location, the vehicle and the recycler's schedule, so the date is confirmed with you rather than promised in advance.
What if I don’t accept the offer?
That’s completely fine. There’s no obligation and no pressure. If our offer doesn’t work for you, you’re free to walk away — no questions asked.
How is my car’s value determined?
Partner recyclers weigh current wholesale market values against your vehicle's condition, mileage, year, make, model and regional demand. Offers are worked out from real comparable sales data rather than guesswork, and they are confirmed against the vehicle when it is collected and verified.
